AFFINBANK
Debit MasterCard Cardholder Drives Home a Honda City in AFFINBANK
Debit MasterCard Contest

KUALA LUMPUR
- Dr. Narehan Hassan, a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara
(UiTM), drives home a brand new Honda City worth over RM84,000.00
just by signing up as AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard cardholder.
She is the grand prize winner
of the AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard Contest held in October last
year in conjunction with the launch of the revolutionary AFFINBANK
Debit MasterCard Unembossed card. In addition, there are nine
other monthly prize winners who each took home either a 42”
plasma TV, a notebook computer or a DVD camcorder.
YBhg. Gen. (R) Tan Sri Dato’
Seri Ismail Haji Omar, Chairman of AFFINBANK presented the prizes
to the winners at a ceremony at Menara AFFIN. The winners were
picked from lucky draws held during the contest period. The
four-month AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard Contest which ended on
31st January 2007 offered a total of 10 prizes. Prizes offered
were a Honda City 1.5 VTEC (A), 42” Toshiba Plasma TVs,
Acer notebook computers as well as Hitachi DVD Camcorders. The
contest was open to all new and existing customers who signed
up for the AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard Unembossed card before
31st January 2007.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tan
Sri Ismail said that the contest was a tremendous success partly
because of the strong media support and publicity and mostly
because of the unwavering support by customers. Since its launch,
the card has been used at merchant locations in over 20 countries
thus proven its wide acceptability even outside Malaysia
"Besides the prizes, we
also made the format of the contest paperless. There were no
forms to fill out or slogans to write, all our customers had
to do was to apply for the card before the deadline."
He also extended his appreciation
to MasterCard Worldwide for their support and collaboration
in making the contest a success.
The AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard
Unembossed card brings all the functionality of a MasterCard
debit card with one key difference - it is unembossed. This
added security feature has been incorporated to allow the card
to be used only in electronic terminals. Account information
is imprinted so the card cannot be used in a manual imprinter.
The ELECTRONIC USE ONLY legend on the card front reinforces
that message so consumers understand that merchants will be
processing their transactions electronically.
Linked to a savings or current
account, the AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard Unembossed card allows
cardholders to conduct transactions using their own funds rather
than making purchase on credit. After each card transaction,
the fund amount will be automatically deducted from the cardholder's
account and reflected in their bank statement. This thereby
gives cardholders the added benefit of controlling their spending
as they are not buying on credit but on how much balance they
have in their account.
With the card, Malaysian consumers
can now enjoy better deposit access thus giving them a payment
card with the same functionality of a credit card, providing
hassle free convenience.
In addition, the AFFINBANK Debit
MasterCard Unembossed card offers cardholders' acceptance at
merchant locations around the globe.
It also acts as a Bankcard which
cardholders can use to withdraw cash at ATMs nationwide and
can be used to gain cash access at Maestro® and Cirrus®_branded
ATM locations globally.
The AFFINBANK Debit MasterCard
Unembossed card also offers a rebate of 0.5% for every Ringgit
charged, including extending to its cardholders special discounts
at AFFINBANK's participating merchants and free travel insurance
coverage.
